I’m absolutely stoked to be premiering the first track to be released Glaswegian four piece Dead Otter’s debut album ‘Bridge of Weird. The band is made up of John Riddell (guitar), Omar Aborida (guitar), Gavin Riddell (bass) and Scott Falconer (drums). This, the title track, is the longest on the album taking up the whole of the second side of the vinyl and is a spacey sonic exploration that starts slowly but gradually builds up into a proper behemoth of a number with that twin guitar attack having it large and taking you off into the cosmos. This is no silky space travel though but seat of you pants stuff that has you marvelling at the steer intensity of it as the band build up a real head of steam. Until around nine minutes in that is, when the guitars drop out and the track kinda starts again. This time in a cleaner and more mellifluous manner, but also with an edgier feeling to it before the band bring the track home in fine style.
All in all this is a really fine track that seems to give more with every listen, and if the rest of the album is anything to go by it’s going to be a doozy.
